Who is behind the Neuseeland Weinboutique?

Behind the Neuseeland Weinboutique are us, the one-man-and-one-woman team, the married couple Hilmar and Petra Naubert. The Neuseeland Weinboutique is our baby and our greatest pride. The idea was quickly born after we saw how underrepresented New Zealand wines were in most European countries. And this despite their excellent quality.

Packed up our belongings and off to New Zealand

We quit our jobs in Germany in 2012, packed our belongings into a container, and moved to New Zealand for 2 years. There, we founded our company on a campsite and visited wineries. It started with one pallet of wine. The business grew and grew. In 2014, we came back to Germany to also offer the wines to trade customers. Meanwhile, we supply wines to many European countries.

Across New Zealand in search of the best

Where do you start when you want to get an overview? Wine is a significant industry in New Zealand, and there are over 740 wineries. Due to the excellent conditions, they have fantastic opportunities to produce wine on par with the world's best. We started the journey and visited countless wineries on both the South and North Islands. 

Initially, we relied on two recognized wine experts - Robert Parker and Michael Cooper. We visited the wineries they rated as excellent. This way, we discovered many interesting wineries and very friendly, open-minded winemakers, united in their resolve to make excellent wine.

Now, many wineries approach us, attracted by a select assortment, which is certainly rare in Europe. We are bursting with pride that we supply New Zealand embassies in Europe with wine. And all this still just the two of us.

New Zealand Wines: Surprisingly Diverse

We were surprised by the diversity of the wines. Like you perhaps, we knew Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. We had also tried a Pinot Noir once. But this multitude of interesting wines, largely unknown in Europe, fascinated us. We want to share this fascination and diversity with you.

Magical Moments

We had our first magical moment in the kitchen of winemaker Wim Julicher. He opened a bottle of Pinot Noir, poured us a glass, and we talked and talked. Suddenly, a heavenly scent filled the room. It came from the wine glass. WOW! Since then, we have been captivated by Pinot Noir.

We remain true to our passion and are therefore the only German-speaking wine merchant who specializes purely in wines from New Zealand. Our credo is to only sell wine with a very good price-pleasure ratio. That's why you will only find wines in our shop that we stand behind. Most of these wines have high or highest ratings from leading wine critics. The wineries are among the best in New Zealand.
