What are Bordeaux style reds?

Bordeaux style reds in most cases are a multi-varietal blend of very complex make-up. The grape varieties involved are cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. These varieties originate in Bordeaux, on France’s Atlantic coast. Hence the name.

The result is a group of wines with a distinct family resemblance, yet the ability to be incredibly complex and multi-faceted. In New Zealand, the Bordeaux blends mainly comes from Hawke’s Bay or Waiheke Island.
