Reviews & Accolades
Marlborough Wine Show 2025: Trophy & Gold.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 93/100. Focused, well build and driven, with aromas of dark cherries, strawberries, blueberries, dried flowers and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and bright acidity. Attractive character on the palate, with blue fruit and a floral influence. Flavorful and velvety. Savory finish. Sustainable. Drink or hold.
Tasting Note
This Pinot Noir possesses powerful, complex and attractive aromas of red and blue fruits, liquorice, violets, baking spice, cedar, and fresh tobacco. The palate reveals classic Pinot Noir characters of cherry, cola, and cranberry with layers of five spice, cinnamon, and aniseed. The new oak provides some subtle coffee and mocha notes. The primary fruit is enveloped by fine, chalky tannins.

Vineyard: Westhaven Vineyard, Awatere Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand. The Westhaven Vineyard is situated in the Dashwood Pass near the entrance to the Awatere Valley. The soils of this north-facing slope consist of rich clays. This low cropping vineyard is pruned to two canes and is planted in the four classic Dijon clones 115, 114, 667 and 777.
Winemaking: This wine is a six-barrel selection of the best barrels out of the premium hand-picked batches from the Westhaven Vineyard. One batch of Westhaven Pinot Noir stood out in 2024; it was the 667 clone with 25% whole bunch. This Reserve wine was made from a selection of the 6 best barrels from the batch, two of which were new.
