Tasting note
Star bright and pale lemon-green in colour with a punchy aroma of pineapple, citrus and a hint of passionfruit. A powerful fruit-driven wine displaying only light secondary aromas. Medium bodied with layers of flavour, the palate core is fruit-dense with mineral nuances. Its presence builds and lingers for a long, persistent finish that is dry and clean.

Reviews for SHEILD Sauvignon Blanc 2025:
James Suckling

Delicate and floral, with citrus flesh, grapefruit skins, white blossoms and crushed stones. Tense and energetic on the palate, with delicious, pure fruit and focused acidity providing a firm backbone. Clean and mineral, with a persistent, refreshing finish. Drink or hold.

Vibrant and fresh, urgent and new, pungent and varietal with a bouquet and palate filled with limes and lemon, some white pineapple and blossoms then fruit spices. A dry wine with a bold lick of acidity and freshness, a saline and salivating with flavours that reflect the bouquet. Well made, youthful and still developing with best drinking from mid 2027 through 2032.

Splendidly fruited and inviting, the bouquet showcases kiwifruit, feijoa, green rockmelon, and lime zest aromas, followed by a succulent palate filled with bright fruit intensity, making it fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2027.
Additional information
Wine type: White wine from New Zealand
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc
Food match: A vibrant match for dishes with fresh herbs, green vegetables, seafood or fresh goat’s cheese. Also ideal as a refreshing aperitif.
Vineyard: Appleby and Twin Rivers vineyards, Waimea Plains, Nelson, New Zealand.
Soil type: Flat alluvial soils, gravel with a layer of silt loam.
Vine age: 16–22 years
Growing Season 2025: After a moderate winter with average rainfall, spring arrived warm and vines thrived. Flowering was compact and strong, resulting in excellent fruit set and even bunches. Summer rainfall was regular but well balanced. Grapes were picked relatively early, arriving at the winery juicy, clean and full of flavour – ideal conditions for another outstanding Nelson vintage.
Regional climate: Nelson’s sheltered topography protects vines from strong winds, while proximity to the sea moderates temperatures and reduces frost risk. High sunshine hours, good diurnal variation and a long growing season ensure outstanding fruit purity and varietal expression.
Winemaking: Three picks from two vineyard sites on the Waimea Plains were machine harvested over one week. Early morning harvesting preserved freshness and aromatics. Gentle pressing, cold settling and cool fermentation with selected Sauvignon Blanc yeasts ensured purity of fruit and structure. A small portion of the wine was aged on fine lees to enhance texture and mouthfeel before blending and bottling in early December 2025.
