Man O' War Valhalla Chardonnay 2024
The 2024 Valhalla Chardonnay is a striking, focused, and complex expression of coastal Waiheke Island. The nose is tight and flinty, offering layers of struck match, white grapefruit, lemon pith, and crushed seashell, with subtle hints of orchard blossom and grilled peach wrapped in a cool, maritime lift. On the palate, it is razor-sharp and direct, driven by citrus and green stone fruit over a firm spine of acidity. The lack of malolactic fermentation preserves exceptional clarity and tension, while the absence of lees work ensures a lean, chiselled texture. The subtle oak provides structure and nuance as a supporting frame, culminating in a long, saline, and refreshingly austere finish.

Type: White wine from New Zealand
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Food match: Match with poultry, pork and veal dishes.
Vineyards: Nikau, Little Beast, Lone Kauri, Root Rake, Gorse Laneway, Noises, Waiheke Island, New Zealand.
Vintage 2024: Fruit for the 2024 vintage was hand-picked between March 3rd and March 21st from coastal and elevated blocks across the estate vineyards on Waiheke Island. Harvest dates were carefully selected to retain natural freshness, vibrant acidity, and a distinctive mineral edge alongside full flavour ripeness.
Winemaking: The hand-picked fruit was crushed straight to press and transferred directly to French oak puncheons (approximately 25% new, 75% seasoned), where the juice fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts. Fast ferments were favoured to encourage savoury aromatic complexity and palate weight. No malolactic fermentation or lees stirring was performed to preserve linearity, drive, and a taut textural line. The wine was aged in barrel for 11 months before bottling.
Alcohol: 13.5% vol
Wine style: dry
Bottle size: 0.75l
