Accolades
MUNDUS VINI Summer Tasting 2022: Gold.
NZ Wine Rater (Steve Bennett MW, Lynette Hudson): 94/100. Intensely aromatic, complex and savoury with lots going on... ripe nectarine, stonefruit and guava fruit characters... spearmint and dried hay herbal elements and caramelized, toasty, biscuit barrel aromas. An impressively intense, complex, barrel ferment style with a lot of oak influence but enough zest and freshness to keep most enthusiasts of the style happy.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: 95/100. Impressively complex and inviting, the bouquet shows grapefruit, crunchy apple, oatmeal and lemon peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's gorgeously flavoursome and persistent. It's brilliantly structured by vibrant acidity, finishing long and engaging. At its best: now to 2026
Decanter: 93/100: Very poised, focused purity and concentration on the bouquet. Impressively complex, this has enticing blackcurrant and gooseberry flavours and a really long, elegant finish. Superb.
Tasting Note
Aromatically the wine gives impressions of stone fruit, citrus blossom, and tropical notes, all supported by lightly smoked oak with a hint of flint and vanilla pod. The palate is equally as complex and generous. Tropical fruits are balanced by lemongrass, fennel and citrus themes. The oak provides a savoury element to the wine; caramel and vanilla notes combined with toasted cashew and spice.

Alcohol: 13% vol

Winemaking: The fruit was hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed to give us some beautiful pristine juice to work with. This juice was dropped down, without settling, to 320 L French oak cigars for indigenous fermentation. The cigar shape barrels were chosen as they increase the surface area of the lees, which helps to build weight and texture. After nine months of maturation, a selection of the best barrels was then blended, finished, and bottled as our 2018 Sauvignon Blanc Oke.
