Reviews
New vintage, no reviews yet. Reviews for Rippon Sauvignon Blanc 2019:
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 94/100 Very intense and vividly fresh aromas of passion fruit and lime with a little edge of mineral. The palate has a very lithe, juicy and succulent feel with bright passion-fruit, green-peach and mango flavors. Focused, dry and fresh.
Wine Front: 94+/100 The whole shebang for making seriopus white wine, despite how people often approach the variety in NZ. A different animal. A high pedigree one. Scents of pecan nuts, ripe citrus, green apple, wheat biscuits. Fleshy in the palate, rolls with authority, firm grip but a juicy core and layers of citrus, stone fruit, nutty flavour. Such a delight! So much to sink one's teeth into.
Tasting note
A beautifully styled sauvignon offering vibrancy as well as refinement; the fragrant bouquet shows rhubarb, nectarine, citrus, green apple details and light herbal notes, leading to an elegantly weighted palate that is finely textured and persistent.

Winemaking:
Picked by hand into small, 10kg cases allowing the fruit to arrive at the winery's sorting table undamaged and intact. It is then whole cluster pressed over 4 hours and run, by gravity, into a settling tank. 12 hours of settling is passed after which the juice is racked, retaining fine lees, and run separately into seasoned/neutral French oak barrels (46% of total) and a fermentation tank (stainless-steel foudre).
The winery's resident yeast population (non-inoculated) started fermenting on day 5, with a temperature between 18-28ºC over 9 days. Both tank and barrel components were racked, blended, cold stabilised and filtered before bottling. Total days on lees: 47.
