A superb Pinot Noir with aromas of black plum and dark cherry. Rich on the palate
with blackcurrant, plum, forest floor notes and subtle spice. Winemaker Rudi Bauer is part of the reason Central Otago has gained international acclaim. The winemaking was very much in keeping with the traditional practices of the Old World.

Quartz Reef Bendigo Pinot Noir 2021
Reviews
Cameron Douglas MS: 96/100. Fantastic bouquet with a sense of place and time, aromas of forrest berries and bracken, mineral and wood spices, fresh dark cherries, plums, wild black currant and procini mushroom. Completely delicious on the palate, texture driven and youthful, flavours of pinosity and sense of place with flavours of soil and spice, core of red fruits and fine toasy barrel qualities. Firm tannin s nad medium+ acid line, a long finish with pinosity, charm and elegance. Great drinking from late 2023 through 2030+.
Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 95/100.
Michael Cooper: 5 stars. A wine of substance, it is ripely scented and sweet-fruited, with mouthfilling body and rich cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, complex, savoury and very harmonious.
Tasting note
Intense aromas of dark cherry lifted by fragrant violet and sage. A layered palate with blueberry, plum with subtle forest floor notes and subtle spice. An elegant wine with classy tannins and a long vibrant finish.

Additional information
Type: Red wine
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Food match: Serve with wild duck and pork dishes
Wine region: Bendigo, Central Otago, New Zealand.Vineyard: Bendigo estate Vineyard, the pioneer vineyard of the Bendigo subregion.
Soil: arid clay, fine gravel and quartz soils
Vintage: With warm Spring conditions, growth was steady throughout the vineyard.
Flowering began in mid-November and following a cold front in late
November, frost risk remained low for the remainder of the season. The new
year brought both rain and snow leaving a dusting on the Pisa Ranges, the
lowest we have ever seen this far into the season. Warm dry weather followed
right through into harvest which enabled the fruit to ripen to perfection.
Veraison took place at the end of January and we began our harvest in
March. Optimal conditions early in the season have resulted in an above
average yield and a long dry season has provided us with exceptional quality.
Winemaking: Hand-picked on the 24th , 26th and 30th March. Each clone was small batch vinified with a small percentage of whole cluster per ferment. Cold Soaked for up to 7 days before indigenous yeast fermentation kicked in. Gentle plunging each day, followed by post maceration of up to 9 days to ensure optimum fruit and tannin balance. Total time on skin; 21-26 days. Drained directly into selected French oak barriques (26% new) where the wine aged for 12 months during which malolactic fermentation occurred naturally.
Alcohol: 14% vol
Residual sugar: <1 g/l
Bottle size: 0.75l
Notice: contains sulphites
Cellaring potential: 2027-30. A maskuline Pinot from Central Otago that will develop well when you have the patience to cellar it.
