Neudorf Tiritiri Chardonnay 2019
Reviews
Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier: 93/100 (Excellent). Enticing bouquet with aromas of California peach and sweet meyer lemon, no mistaking the floral layer with fresh wild flowers then a core of minerality and freshness. There's a leesy soft oak complexity adding depth and allure. On the palate - youthful, tense, ripe and dry. Weighty and nearly full-bodied with a crisp texture and plenty of acidity tempered by flavours of stone fruit and citrus. Fine fruit and wood tannins with a leesy texture. Well made, youthful and complex. best drinking from late 2021 through 2027.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 93/100.Aromas of apple pie and some smoke and mineral undertones follow through to a medium to full body with a phenolic-framed mid-palate and a fresh, vivid finish. A little shy, but lots going on here. Drink or hold.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 93/100. Aromas of apple pie and some smoke and mineral undertones follow through to a medium to full body with a phenolic-framed mid-palate and a fresh, vivid finish. A little shy, but lots going on here. Drink or hold.
Decanter: 91/100 (Tasted by Julie Sheppard (at Weekday Wines Tasting, 08 Sep 2021) ). A newcomer to Neudorf's portfolio, made with grapes sourced from three sites in the Moutere Hills and wild-fermented in barrel. Aromas of waxy citrus, with breezy freshness. The textured, silky palate combines flinty mineral notes with citrus, apple and a touch of peach, alongside vibrant acidity. A good match for creamy fish dishes. Drinking Window 2021 - 2025.
Tasting note
On the nose - ocean sea spray, waxy native florals entwined with white peaches and a hint of funk. These flavours are brought though to the palate along with notes of fennel. The wine flirts with an exquisite balance of minerality & precision. There is a refreshing surge of acidity that is held together brilliantly with a framework of oak & fruit concentration - all riding the wave in sync.
