Mahi Marlborough Pinot Gris 2020

review Mahi Marlborough Pinot Gris 2020Cameron Douglas MS: 94/100 (Excellent). A lovely aromatic lift with aromas of spice and ripe white fleshed fruit, pear d' Angou and crunchy red apple, a fine lees autolysis and stony mineral moments. On the palate - sarin textures with contrasting acidity lead to flavours of white fleshed fruit and citrus pith, more lees autolysis and spice and a lengthy weight finish. A delicious wine ready to enjoy from today and through 2025+.

Bewertung Mahi Marlborough Pinot Gris 2020Bob Campbell, MW: 94/100 & Top 10 Marlborough Pinot Gris 2020.Distinctive pale-pink-tinted Pinot Gris, with delicately succulent peach, pear, honeysuckle and pepper-spice flavours. The wine is dry, with reasonably soft acidity and a pleasingly lengthy finish.

Bewertung Mahi Marlborough Pinot Gris 2020James Suckling ( 93/100. A very fresh and attractive pinot gris that has aromas of peach and lemon. Gently flinty with some creamy notes, too. Mouth-filling, rich texture. Bold, yet fresh with well handled texture and balance. Long, perfumed pear finish. Drink now.

Tasting Note

Characters from this special vineyard in Ward give this Pinot Gris complexity and depth. Lovely aromas of ripe peach and nectarine. The palate has an elegant structure with a creamy, textural mid-palate and a long finish.

Grape varial: Pinot Gris

Alcohol: 13.0% vol

Vineyard: From one vineyard located just outside the township of Ward in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand. Being at the southern end of the Marlborough appellation, and also so close to the sea, this vineyard benefits from the cooler southerly winds that come up the coast. These cooler conditions again assist with flavour retention and also mean that the vines must be cropped low to ensure that they get fully ripe.

Winemaking: The fruit machine-picked to bin so maceration was minimised. A portion of this juice was barrel-fermented in older French oak to give greater weight, though ensuring that wood is not evident on the nose. The balance of the wine was fermented cool to retain the fruit characters from our vineyards. The final blend this year was made solely from free-run juice, as we feel it gives a more elegant and subtle wine, especially with Pinot Gris, that has quite 'grey' coloured skins.
