Reviews and Accolades
MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2023: Gold.
Cameron Douglas MS: 95/100. Complex, herbaceous, mineral and fruity with some spice highlights from wood and lees. Lovely weight and texture with a light saline effect through the acidity. Spice and fresh stone-fruit flavours with a tropical fruit twist. Generous and fresh, textured with a satin finish. Great drinking from 2023 through 2026.
Bob Campbell, MW (The Real Review): 93/100. Rich, weighty and textural sauvingon blanc with a mix of ripe, tropical fruit, guava and greener, grassier, capsicum notes from the other end of the flavour spectrum. A classic Marlborough style. Drink: 2022 - 2028.
Tasting Note
This wine’s aromatics cover just about every character we see in great Marlborough sauvignon: passionfruit, ripe herbal notes, lime, lifted florals, melon, green pepper and more. Packed with concentrated flavours, the wine is well-balanced, bright and fresh with a fleshy, textural mid-palate and chalky, lingering finish.

Additional information
Grape varial: Sauvignon Blanc
Alcohol: 13% vol
Food match: Shellfish (especially oysters)! Or any seafood that is simply prepared with just a squeeze of lemon and hint of seasoning. Also delicious with spicy foods, goat's cheese, salads, asparagus and other vegetables. It also provides a lovely contrast to richer foods such as patés, terrines and parfaits.
Vineyards: The grapes for this wine came from Lawson's Dry Hills' Waihopai vineyard, the Woodward block in the Wairau Valley (just a few hundred metres from the winery) and the Blind River vineyard in the Awatere. Whilst the season gave the winery some challenges with inclement weather, having their own harvester meant we could bring in blocks right when we wanted to, and the resulting wine offers everything you would anticipate from top quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaking: Managed crops from just two and three cane pruned vines give the winery intense aromatics and flavour. Each block was picked when the team felt they reached maximum passionfruit characters and while the acidity was still bright and crisp. The grapes were gently pressed before being fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected cultured yeast and 10% was fermented with wild yeast in old French barriques. This wine is a blend of tanks that we felt stood out for aromatic intensity and concentration on the palate.
