Fromm Quarters Pinot Noir 2017
Bob Campbell, MW: 94/100. From a single vineyard in the Lower Brancott. Moderately concentrated pinot noir with dark cherry, plum, berry and a solid influence of toasty (and tasty) oak. A fresh, tangy wine, with a backbone of fine, ripe tannins suggesting good cellaring potential.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 94/100. This has such deeply brambly fruit, perfumed flowers and a swirling array of cherries, dark peaches and pomegranate. The palate offers a very succulent, plush and layered tannin build that carries sheets of fresh, sliced stone-fruit and cherry flavor.
Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 92+/100 (March 2019). Sturdier and more tannic than the 2016, the 2017 Quarters Vineyard Pinot Noir still showcases the site's notes of roses, tea and raspberries. It's medium to full-bodied, ripe yet zesty, with some dusty tannins on the finish. Give it another year or two to come together, then drink through 2030.
Michael Cooper: 5 stars. ... the rare 2017 vintage (5*) was hand-harvested in the lower Brancott Valley, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and matured in three French oak barriques (yielding a total production of 900 bottles). Full-coloured, it is a classy young red, mouthfilling, rich and finely structured, with dense, berryish, spicy, nutty flavours, complex and persistent. A refined, highly approachable and very harmonious wine, it's already delicious, but likely to be at its best 2021+.
This single vineyard wine from the clay influenced soils in the Brancott Valley is showing ripe, dark red fruit verging on blue, the nose unravels into aromatic floral nuances and a seductive graphite minerality with the faintest hint of oak spice adding to the bouquet. The palate has lovely fruit weight, layered over broad yet silken tannins. The acidity is balanced, and the wine's complex structure will confidently carry it through many a year.
