Reviews
Reviews for Framingham Old Vine Riesling 2020:
NZ Wine Rater (Steve Bennett MW, Lynette Hudson): 96/100 (Outstanding). Complex, generous, expansive and honeyed on the nose indicating later picking with some botrytis influence. Displaying characters of clover honey, orange blossom and ripe nectarine on the nose. Rich, full-bodied style but with great balance, texture, length and drive. Finishing dry with succulent acid to balance. Top draw.
Cameron Douglas MS: 94/100 (Excellent). Intense bouquet - pure, ripe, complex, fruity, detailed and enticing. Aromas and flavours of preserved lemon and sour peach, apple and fresh roses, honeydew melon and white spice. Fresh, vibrant, tense and youthful - high acidity contrasted by a core of citrus and mineral flavours, honeysuckle, roses, lemon and stones. Lengthy and dry on the finish. A fabulous wine perfect as an aperitif or with seafood. Best drinking from today and through 2030.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 93/100 & Top 100 Wines of New Zealand 2021. Lime curd, green peach, apricot stone, flint and some ash on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and a subtle yet concentrated palate. Nice balance between fruit and stones on the finish. Dry feel. Drink now or hold.
Tasting Note
Deliciously balanced, full-bodied, it has fresh pure aromas lemon, mandarin and apple flavours. With an impressive rich texture, weighty and lingering, it is a distinctive, 'food-worthy' Riesling.

Grape varial: Riesling
Food match: rich pork dishes, Foie Gras
Alcohol: 13% vol
Wine region: Marlborough, New Zealand
Vineyard: Planted 1981. Grapes for 2020 F-Series Old Vine Riesling were selected from the old vines both in front of the cellar door building and at the back of the winery.
Soil: Soils here are of the old riverbed type; fist sized stones composed of greywacke (a hard, dark type of sandstone streaked with quartz and feldspar), mixed alluvial gravel and silt.
Winemaking: Vineyard practice for this wine is geared to produce ripe grapes that have had maximum "hang time" on the vine. Fruit is all hand harvested. Hand-picked grapes were bought into the winery where 90% were immediately whole bunch pressed whilst the remainder was destemmed and spent 12 hours on its skins. Unclarified, unsulphured musts were settled for 12 hours before racking off gross solids to a mixture of stainless-steel barrels and seasoned acacia puncheons (20%). Fermentation was allowed to start spontaneously until dry-(ish), and the various components were left on full ferment lees for 9 months before blending and bottling.
