Reviews
Critics about the Ata Rangi Célèbre 2018:
Cameron Douglas MS: 94/100 (Excellent). Aromas of a complex and detailed wine with suggestions of plums and spice, dark olive and black berry, there’s a lovely floral scent adding a top-line of freshness then an earthy mineral and various shades of oak. On the palate - youthful, tense, vibrant and persistent. There’s power from the tannins and alcohol, medium+ acidity and a decent oak structure. The fruit provides the core with a persistent thread throughout the palate. Youthful, well made and long. Best drinking from 2023 through 2030.
James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com): 93/100. Modern and packed with ripe, plush fruit and plenty of peppery syrah influence across the red plums and dark berries. The palate has a fresh, lively and very smooth weave of tannin. So fleshy and packed with peppery plum flavors.
Tasting Note
A full and enticing nose of aromas; blueberry, blackberry and plums tempered by chocolate and spice flavours of cardamom. The palate sweeps in with flavours of pepper and plums and a mineral sensation that lingers through the length of the palate. The tannins are ripe and balanced. An impressive release of this wine, delicious drinking now but with a concentration and structure that will allow this wine to further evolve.

The fermenters are then closed up and the wine is left to slowly macerate with the skins for a further 10 days. The Syrah which ripens earlier is fermented separately with a shorter fermentation period to keep it bright and floral.
